Tip of the Day: |
|
Please ensure that you have the correct version of Internet Explorer installed (Version 5.01 Service Pack 2 or later).
You can open this window by selecting Tools/Guard-IE in the menu bar of the browser or by clicking the castle button in the toolbar.
You can always open a popup window by pressing CTRL or SHIFT while navigating the web browser.
You can allow popup windows for a specific browser window by toggling the toolbar with the 'window' icon.
If you frequently visit a website that requires popup windows, you can add its name/URL to the good popup list. In order to do this, click on the Popups button above.
If you are concerned about your privacy, you can immediately delete cookies and selected browser histories by pressing the button with the red 'X' button in the toolbar.
We recommend that you configure Guard-IE to automatically delete unwanted cookies. For users not using any cookie manager it is not uncommon to have more than 15000 cookies on their machine !
Guard-IE will warn you, if it finds more than 80 unwanted Cookies on your machine. More than 80 cookies will slow down your web browser; we recommend you have Guard-IE delete these.
In experiments we have found out that the average user needs 5 Cookies in order to surf the Web. All other cookies are primarily used by advertising agencies.
Guard-IE comes with a set of sophisticated filter rules that will protect you from the latest snooping and privacy threats on the Internet. These filters can also be used to supress certain types of advertisements (e.g. Geocities ads).
Through an easy-to-use online-update mechanism, script advertisement filter rules can be updated to repress a growing list of advertisements.
You can enable/disable filter rules for a specific browser window by toggling the toolbar button with the computer screen.
If you have selected "Do not allow popups" but still see some, it is likely you have SpyWare installed on your computer. Search the Internet to find free software to "Remove Spyware."
The only purpose of web bugs is to track your online presence. If Guard-IE finds a bug, the 'spider' button in the Guard-IE toolbar starts blinking.
